Technical documents are essential in many industries, but they’re often dense, complex, and overwhelming for learners—especially those new to the subject matter. In my recent project, I was challenged with helping learners make sense of a highly technical document. The existing format relied solely on text, which led to disengagement, low retention, and inconsistent understanding.

Security awareness training is often filled with static slides, flat narration, and unengaging content—which leads to learners clicking through without truly engaging or retaining critical information. A client who purchased a suite of security awareness courses wanted something different. They needed a more interactive, immersive experience that would actively involve learners and help them apply critical thinking to cybersecurity threats.

Traditional eLearning quizzes are often predictable and lack excitement—making it difficult to capture learners’ attention or motivate them to continue. For an eLearning design contest, I wanted to prove that even a basic quiz can become an immersive and fun experience if designed creatively.

I designed a microcourse that transforms a dense technical knowledge article into an engaging branching scenario. Using the ADDIE model and Bloom’s Taxonomy, I created a learner-centered experience focused on decision-making and real-world application. The course improved troubleshooting accuracy and demonstrated the power of intentional, theory-based design.
